Ahead of the Earth Day celebration coming up this weekend, there's a ranking of states considered green. Minnesota is ranked 7th. Nebraska is 44th. North Dakota is 47th.

The weed known as Palmer amaranth is seen as such a threat to North Dakota agriculture that the general public is asked to be on the lookout for it. It has potential to be devastating to agricultural industry. It's a member of the pigweed family. It grows two to three inches a day in ideal conditions. It is highly invasive and herbicide resistant. It was likely introduced in Minnesota through tainted seed mixture.

Nationwide, 6% of nation's corn crop was planted as of yesterday's Crop Progress report, compared to 9% five-year average.
