Fifteen high school students in Missouri can attend the University of Misouri (UM) Pork Institute on the UM campus in Columbia June 14-16 to learn about the future of pork production, new technologies or becoming a leader in the pork industry.
The registration fee of $100 covers materials, meals, dormitory lodging and planned field trips. Participants are responsible for travel costs to and from Columbia, MO.
Space is limited to 15 students; all high school students are encouraged to apply. A selection committee of university faculty and pork industry leaders will screen the applicants. The applications must be postmarked by May 3 and results of the selection process will be announced May 7, 2010.
Those selected to attend will tour the Triumph Foods pork processing plant in St. Joseph, MO, learn about a live animal ultrasound and tour a modern swine facility. At completion of the institute, participants will take a written examination. The top two highest-scoring individuals will each earn a $500 scholarship to the University of Missouri-Columbia.
