The National Air Quality Site Assessment Tool (NAQSAT) has been developed for voluntary use by livestock producers and their advisors. The development team was led by Michigan State University’s Wendy Powers-Schilling.

Three years in development, the tool is designed to help livestock and poultry producers identify areas in their operations where changes could reduce air emissions.

The assessment tool is based on the most credible data and mitigation strategies for emissions of ammonia, methane, volatile organic compounds, hydrogen sulfide, particulates and odor. A new, three-year process is underway to provide additional updates and improvement to the tool, according to the Iowa State University Pork Industry Center (IPIC). Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa State University Experiment Station are partners in the process.
