U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Chief Economist Joseph Glauber announced that he will retire effective Jan. 1, and become a visiting senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute. Robert Johansson, USDA’s deputy chief economist, will assume the role of acting chief.
Glauber, who has held the top economic post since 2008, was responsible for the USDA’s agricultural forecasts and projections, and for advising the secretary of agriculture on economic implications of alternative programs, regulations and legislative proposals. I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Glauber. He is a true professional and a trusted adviser at the USDA. He will be missed.
