United States Imposes Sanctions on Russia

President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order imposing sanctions on former Ukrainian leaders and high-level Russian officials after the referendum in Crimea to join Russia.

The sanctions block the assets of the individuals named; prohibits United States companies and individuals from engaging in transactions with these individuals; and bans these individuals from traveling to the U.S.

The administration is also looking at actions it can take against key Russian industries, including energy and mining.  It will be important to follow how these actions will affect trade with Russia.
