Producer delegates from across the United States gathered in Kansas City for the annual National Pork Industry Forum. The Forum serves as the annual meetings for the National Pork Board and the National Pork Producers Council and each year delegates confer, vote on resolutions and advisements and provide valuable direction on the important issues facing pork producers and the industry.

This year's annual meeting of the Pork Act delegate body emphasized the new Checkoff vision, strategic plan and structure. As an organization that is "consumer focused, producer led," the staff and budget will now focus on two overarching goals, "build trust" and "add value."

"One of the things that we say quite often is we don't farm the same way we did in 1967 or in 1985," says David Newman, president of the National Pork Board and a pig farmer representing Arkansas. "Our industry has changed tremendously over the last 30 years and it's only the responsible thing to do to say that the Checkoff and the mission of what we do there also needed to change."
