Pork Industry Mourns the Loss of Veterinarian Jim McKean

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) shares the sad news about the sudden passing of Jim McKean, DVM, Iowa State University Swine Extension Veterinarian.

McKean was a long-time member of AASV and very active in the association, serving as President in 1990.  In 1999, he received the Howard Dunne Memorial Award recognizing his significant contribution and outstanding service to the AASV and the swine industry.

He has been Iowa State University Swine Extension Veterinarian for over thirty years. In this role, he was highly active on swine health and production topics with a particular focus on food safety issues.

He was the organizer and driving force behind the annual ISU Swine Disease Conference.

Beyond the devastating loss to his family and friends, AASV notes that he will be missed by the veterinary profession and pork producers.

In 2008 McKean’s dedication to the pork industry led to him being chosen as a National Hog Farmer Master of the Pork Industry.
