First Crop Progress Report

USDA released it first “Crop Progress” report on this year’s crop.  The report rates the corn crop at 76 percent in good or excellent condition in the top 18 corn-producing states for the week ended June 1.  This compares to 63 percent at the same time last year. 

According to the report 80 percent of the corn crop has emerged.  This is above last year’s 63 percent.  The five-year average is 80 percent.  The soybean crop is estimated to be 78 percent planted by June 1 in the major producing states.  This compares to 55 percent planted at this time last year.  The five-year average is 70 percent.
