Califf nominated to be FDA commissioner

Robert Califf, M.D., has been nominated by President Obama to serve as the next commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Califf, currently serving as the FDA’s deputy commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco, previously worked as a cardiologist, medical professor and researcher at Duke University and is a graduate of Duke’s School of Medicine. A major item for the FDA is finalizing rules to implement the Food Safety Modernization Act.
