Next week the chairmen of the House and Senate Budget Committees are expected to make their recommendations for the fiscal year 2016 budget. Agricultural groups will be closely watching the recommendations regarding proposed cuts for agriculture.
There has been some speculation the recommendations may include proposed cuts for farm programs and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps). As reported in a previous column, more than 400 agricultural, nutrition and conservation groups wrote Congress earlier this year advocating no cuts in programs contained in the 2014 farm bill.
