According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Production Expenditures report, producers spent $367.3 billion on agricultural production expenditures in 2013. This was a 2% increase compared to 2012.
The average expenditures per farm totaled $175,270. The four largest expenditures accounted for 45.6 percent of total expenses ‑ feed (17%), farm services (10.6%), livestock, poultry and related expenses (9.3%), and labor (8.7%). This report is based on the nationwide Agricultural Resource Management Survey by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
