COLUMBUS, Ohio - Aug. 19, 2009 - Bob Evans Farms, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOBE) today announced that Candace Croney, Ph. D., has filled a vacant seat on its Animal Well-Being Committee, effective immediately.

Dr. Croney is an associate professor of animal behavior and bioethics in the department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at the Ohio State University. She has served as an animal welfare advisor to the National Pork Board, the Animal Agriculture Alliance, the Northwest Sustainable Dairy Program and the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. She has received recognition from both the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State for her teaching on ethical issues in animal agriculture.

Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs Sommer Mueller, DVM, who spearheaded the formation of the Bob Evans Animal Well-Being Committee in 2008, said Dr. Croney is a welcome addition. "Dr. Croney is among the most highly respected animal behavior experts in the country, and we are thrilled to have her on our Committee," Dr. Mueller said. "She brings a wealth of expertise in the area of applied animal behavior, with emphasis on animal learning and welfare. Her research, teaching and outreach efforts are exemplary, as evidenced in part by the recognition and awards she has received."

The Bob Evans Animal Well-Being Committee ensures the well being, proper handling and humane harvest of all the animals that provide products for Bob Evans Farms. The Committee works with key suppliers and employees to establish policy and programs that are ethically grounded, scientifically verified and economically viable. Dr. Croney joins Dr. Mueller and other representatives of the Company's supply chain, as well as Anna Butters-Johnson, Ph. D., assistant professor in animal behavior and well-being at Iowa State University, and Janice Swanson, Ph. D., professor and director of animal welfare at Michigan State University, on the Animal Well-Being Committee.
