As the calendar flips to 10th month of the year, the official salute to pork has arrived. While every day on your hog farm is focused on producing safe, quality pork; the month of October has been formally christened as National Pork Month or as many say “Porktober”.
This is great time to send our gratitude. So, on behalf of all pork consumers I raise my fork to each every individual in the pork supply chain. During this month and every month, I say thank you for rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty, for every minute of sleep you lost caring for pigs, for investing sweat and monetary equity, and for following your passion.
Furthermore, this national recognition is a great opportunity for the consumer to learn more about real pig farming and the nutrient-rich protein, pork hog farmers produce. As a hog farmer, I encourage you to share your story and befriend a media person to share the good news.
Remember, the one thing you have in common with the majority of the consumer is the delicious pork - an affordable protein valuable to all diets. Pork is a very versatile animal protein and can be paired with many different flavors. In fact as the global favorite, it is safe to say pork can be enjoyed in a variety of ways with your choice of witchery brew.
So in the celebrating spirit, the National Hog Farmer is kicking off a new contest. We invite all lovers of pork to share on social media the different ways you incorporate it into your healthy diet. Each week will be a new theme. Starting Oct. 5 share your pork dish on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, and use the hashtag designated below that highlights the theme for the week. The NHF staff will follow your posts by scoping out the designated hashtag, select the top social media posts for the week and it will be featured on the National Hog Farmer website.
- Week 1: [Oct. 5-11] #GrillingUpPork
- Week 2: [Oct. 12-18] #TailgatingPork
- Week 3: [Oct. 19-25] #BaconLoversUnite
- Week 4 [Oct. 26-Nov. 1] #PorkApproved
If you do not participate in the hashtag world or on the different social media platforms, you are welcome to email your photos corresponding with the theme of the week to Cheryl.Day@penton.com.
