“A One Health Approach to Antimicrobial Use and Resistance” describes the second forum on the antibiotic issue sponsored by the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA). It is set for Nov. 13-15, 2012 at the Hilton Polaris Hotel in Columbus, OH.

Special hotel rates are $139/night. When booking, ensure the reservationist knows you are with the National Institute for Animal Agriculture symposium. Book rooms by visiting http://animalagriculture.org/Solutions/Symposia/2012_antibiotics/hotel_travel.html

Nov. 13 will focus on antimicrobial use; Nov. 14 will revolve around antimicrobial resistance; and the last day of the program (Nov. 15) will provide a focus forward.

The common purpose of the NIAA program is to promote improving health through judicious use of antimicrobials and decrease the impacts of antibiotic resistance.

The forum will build upon information and consensus from the previous symposium held last October in Chicago. Thirteen scientists in both the animal and human health arena addressed a wide array of current research and initiatives regarding the use of antibiotics.

Interest in the first symposium proved overwhelming, with nearly 250,000 page views. The forum resulted in a White Paper (available in English, Spanish and Portugese) detailing various aspects of antibiotic resistance that has been downloaded more than 25,000 times.

The White Paper and other information about the 2011 symposium and about the National Institute for Animal Agriculture can be accessed through NIAA’s Web site at www.AnimalAgriculture.org.
