McDonald’s announced a new menu initiative that it will only source chickens raised without antibiotics that are important to human medicine. It is expected that this will take place within two years for all of McDonald’s 14,000 U.S. restaurants.
McDonald’s U.S. President Mike Andres said, “Our customers want food that they feel great about eating – all the way from the farm to the restaurant – and these moves take a step toward better delivering on those expectations.” Producers who supply chicken to McDonald’s will still be able to continue to responsibly use ionophores, a type of antibiotic not used for humans.
