Iowa pork producers honored their own during the awards banquet Wednesday night. Master Pork Producers have been honored in Iowa since 1942, when the program started to stimulate pork and lard production to assist the World War II effort.
Wednesday night’s honorees were Chet and Cassie Mogler, Lyon County; Brian Lundell, Sac County; Kathy Pratt, Cherokee County; Fred and Donna Zenk, Plymouth County; Dominic and Karen Hogen, Jones County; Gene Tinker, Delaware County (pictured); Ryan Kress, Buchanan County; Terry and Janet Mann, Monona County; and Denis and Laurel Heithoff, Carroll County.
Cassandra Jass, Hardin County; Josh Bowden, Buchanan County; and Craig Riesgaard, Audubon County were honored as Iowa Master Pork Partners. Rick and Ryan Abbas of Butler County were honored as Master Seedstock Producer and Gerry and Gary Brands of Lyon County were named Pork All-Americans. David Schmitt, retired Iowa state veterinarian, and Gary Lynch of Lynch Livestock Inc. were named Honorary Master Pork Producers.
