2020 Illinois Pork Expo celebrates fifth year in Springfield

The Illinois Pork Producers Association is once again hosting the Illinois Pork Expo at the Bank of Springfield Center in downtown Springfield this February.

On Feb. 4, the expo kicks off with the IPPA Annual Meeting at 9 a.m. At this meeting IPPA delegates will conduct business, present the Distinguished Service Award and Pam Janssen of Minonk, current president, will also give her retiring address.

The trade show doors will open at noon and remain open through the Legislative Reception. Leading into dinner, at 5 p.m., will be the recognition of the 2020 IPPA Family of the Year. A pork meal will be served as legislators visit with local pig farmers and allied industry folks who are exhibiting at the show.

On Feb. 5, the tradeshow floor will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. University of Illinois Extension will be hosting a Certified Livestock Manager Training beginning at 12:15 p.m. for those who need to renew their certification.

2020 Youth Day
In addition to hosting the annual expo in February, IPPA is also inviting youth, ages 8-18, to attend the 2020 Youth Day, themed "Career Exploration."

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. Earlybird Nutrition is the title sponsor and will conduct a one-hour workshop at the beginning of the event. Children will then rotate through various career booths to learn about opportunities in their future and enjoy a pork burger lunch, provided by the IPPA.

Families are encouraged to spend the day together learning about swine, the pork industry in Illinois and career opportunities in their future. Advanced registration is required. A full schedule and registration link can be found at the IPPA site

Sponsors for the event include (Gold) Earlybird Nutrition; (Bronze) The Maschhoffs, Carthage Veterinary Service, Lindner Show Feeds, Darling Ingredients, Illinois State University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Knauth + Olson Boars.
