Catch the Pork Academy Seminars at World Pork Expo

Make plans now to attend the Pork Checkoff's Producer Opportunity for Revenue and Knowledge (PORK) Academy sessions on Wednesday, June 5, and Thursday, June 6, during the 25th anniversary of World Pork Expo June 5-7 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, IA.

“PORK Academy offers an outstanding lineup of leading experts who will address issues facing producers today,” says David Ray, chair of the Checkoff's Producer and State Services Committee and a pork producer from Edenton, NC.

“These sessions will provide attendees with information to help operate their farms more effectively and to stay current on industry trends and challenges.”

The 2013 PORK Academy seminar topics include:

Wednesday, June 5:

      ·         Feed Price Update and Feed Efficiency Drivers
      ·         Protect, Prepare and Prevent: Securing Your Farm and Your Reputation
      ·         Export Issues and World Markets

Thursday, June 6:
      ·         Food Safety Analysis
      ·         Swine Influenza Virus
      ·         Reproductive Decision Tree
      ·         Industry Productivity Analysis
      ·         Sow Housing

“Producers won't want to miss the Business Seminar Luncheon, sponsored by the Pork Checkoff, featuring a weather outlook from Elwynn Taylor of Iowa State University and an economic outlook from Steve Meyer of Paragon Economics. The popular and entertaining speakers always draw a packed crowd,” Ray adds.

Other Checkoff-funded Events
In addition to the PORK Academy seminars, the Pork Checkoff is sponsoring several fun and informational events for producers attending World Pork Expo, including “Everything's Better with Bacon!” event at the Pork Checkoff hospitality tent. Visitors can enjoy pork fellowship, watch live radio interviews, sample bacon treats and grab breakfast daily.

At the Pork Checkoff Booth in the Varied Industries Building, producers can pick up new Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA Plus) resources, including recordkeeping and safety benchmarking tools and new customizable standard operating procedure (SOP) templates.

“What's New in the Meat Case” will highlight the new pork cut names and success stories from the Pork Be inspiredadvertising and promotional campaign.
