Seaboard Triumph Foods began commercial operations at its Sioux City, Iowa, last September, and now the plant is in the process of gearing up for a second shift.

According to an article on KTIV.com, Seaboard Triumph Foods has begun hiring for a second shift, which will create another 900 jobs, on top of the 1,100 that started last fall.

“The next step for us is to continue hiring as we move from staffing our first shift to beginning to staff our second shift, and to get those folks on board and get them trained and to continue to ramp up the total schedule for the plant,” Mark Porter, Seaboard Triumph Foods chief operating officer, says, speaking earlier this week at the LeMars (Iowa) Agriculture Luncheon.

About 10,000 market hogs are processed each day at the plant, producing fresh pork for retail, international, foodservice and further processing markets. Porter also says the company will soon be starting trade with China and Japan.

Seaboard Triumph Foods’ Sioux City plant opened Sept. 5, 2017, the same day the Clemens Food Group starting processing hogs in its Coldwater, Mich., plant, making for a historic day in the U.S. swine industry. That day saw the hog harvest capacity grow by more on that one day than the industry had seen it grow in any single year. The two plants combined added 22,200 head processed each day.
