Greensboro, N.C., (April 29, 2010) -- Thousands of Novartis associates in 55 countries engaged in volunteer activities on Thursday, April 22, to benefit people in their local communities in celebration of the company’s Community Partnership Day. This year marked the 14th Community Partnership Day, commemorating the 1996 creation of Novartis as a global leader in healthcare solutions. About 14,500 associates worldwide joined in the event in 2009, aiding a wide range of charitable causes.
Novartis Animal Health, US, Inc. is headquartered in Greensboro, N.C. To contribute to the world-wide Novartis initiative, 120 Greensboro employees participated in volunteer efforts at Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center in Colfax, N.C, and Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., as part of their Community Partnership Day.
Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic equine activities to over 250 disabled individuals each year. Victory Junction provides children with chronic or serious illnesses the opportunity to attend camp, while still being under 24-hour medical supervision.
Novartis Animal Health volunteer activities included everything from pressure washing buildings to removing dead trees and reseeding pastures at both facilities. Employees also cleaned stalls and tool rooms, as well as, painted and put in new fence lines.
Employees at the Novartis Animal Health facility in Larchwood, Iowa, also plan to participate with a Community Partnership Day on May 14. Approximately 100 employees will divide up and contribute to three projects – preparing local parks for the summer season (painting shelters, cleaning and landscaping), putting the finishing touches on the new black rhino exhibit at the Great Falls Zoo in Sioux Falls, S.D., or hosting a spa day for residents at a local nursing home.
Community Partnership Day has grown steadily as a way for Novartis associates worldwide to give back to our communities. Associates in each country choose volunteer activities according to local needs – whether medical, environmental, social or material.
