Japan to move forward on ratifying TPP

The Japanese government has announced that it will begin efforts for legislative approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement. The government will submit 11 bills to the Japanese Diet (parliament) that will ratify TPP and enact legislation required for approval of TPP.

The goal is to adopt the bills prior to June 1 and avoid making TPP an issue in the Japanese election which will take place later this year. Japan hopes by taking the lead it will encourage other countries to move forward on ratification. The United States will not consider TPP prior to the November election.
