“Mr. President, America needs jobs. The GIPSA rule would kill them,” states the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and National Pork Producers Council in a full-page advertisement appearing in today’s Dubuque Telegraph Herald.

President Obama joined Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in travels today to Peosta in Dubuque County, IA, for a Rural Economic Forum at Northeast Iowa Community College.

The ad refers to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) proposed rule that could kill 114,000 jobs, including 750 in Iowa. It is estimated that it could cost the Iowa economy more than $630 million and drive food prices up $46 million in just one year.

“That’s something this country and Iowa just can’t afford. Mr. President, we need jobs. Please stop the GIPSA rule in its tracks,” the ad concluded.
