Bill introduced to end tax credit for animal fats biodiesel

Congressman Randy Weber (R-TX) has introduced HR 5004 which would eliminate the $1 per gallon blending tax credit for biodiesel and renewable diesel produced from animal fats.

The American Cleaning Institute stated their support for the bill by saying, “We are not opposed to biofuels. We are opposed to misguided government subsidies that negatively affect the price and availability of animal fats, a key feedstock for the oleochemical industry.”

The oleochemical industry uses animal fats for soaps, personal care products and lubricants. Animal fats account for approximately 30% of biodiesel feedstocks.
