My hobby this year, you might call it, doing my civic duty, is serving on a grand jury. It is an interesting experience and some of what we hear is absolutely sickening.

Kansas is normally the biggest wheat producing state in the country. This year it is in drought. Winter wheat is rated 32% good to excellent and 31% poor to very poor. This is the worst condition the crop has been in for years. The grain trade knew wheat was bad, but didn't know it was this bad.

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is on his third "Back to Our Roots" RV tour. He's in Michigan today and will also visit Ohio and Kentucky. He's been in 34 states since taking office.

This weather situation, what a story of contrasts. Some will need to be alert for severe storms while others will be running snow blowers and scooping.
