Manure Storage Safety Standard Revised

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has revised its standard on manure storage safety.

The revised standard, ASAE EP470.1, Manure Storage Safety, reflects field research on worker safety and proper removal of waste from confined manure storage structures. Additional changes include information on confined space entry with references to a relatively new ASABE safety standard, ANSI/ASABE S607, Ventilating Manure Storages to Reduce Entry Risk.

A copy of the document can be ordered by contacting ASABE headquarters directly at: [email protected]. A full text electronic copy of the standard can also be viewed by ASABE members and those with site-license privileges to the ASABE online Technical Library, at www.asabe.org.

ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards developing organization for food, agricultural and biological systems. Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute. For more information contact Scott Cedarquist at ASABE, (269) 932-7031, or e-mail [email protected]. Learn more at www.asabe.org/standards.
