Nutrient Management Resources Available

The eXtension Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center (LPELC) reports that two new nutrient management resources are now available for use, including a nutrient curriculum and Spanish language educational videos.

The Nutrient Curriculum consists of a set of materials designed for use by classroom teachers and Extension educators. The materials are divided into nine sections, and include topics like water quality, nutrient management regulations, equipment calibration, nutrient planning, manure handling, safety and manure application. In addition to a lesson plan, educators can use presentation slides, videos, fact sheets  and review questions and games for their classrooms or programs. More information is available at http://www.extension.org/pages/65573/managing-manure-nutrients-curriculum-materials .

Two new Spanish language videos are available to help demonstrate proper manure sampling. These videos were translated from existing videos with permission from the Iowa Learning Farms project. One video covers dry manure sampling and the second demonstrates liquid manure sampling. English versions of these videos are also available by searching for “manure sampling” on the LPELC YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/lpelc .
