World Health Organization Report on Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance (AMR) is a major worldwide threat to public health, according to a recent World Health Organization (WHO) antibiotic resistance report.

The report said that resistance to common bacteria has reached alarming levels in many parts of the world.  The main focus of the report was human health intervention.

The report recommended that people only use antibiotics when prescribed by a doctor, and for doctors to only prescribe antibiotics when necessary.

Regarding animals, the report said, “Antimicrobial resistance has an impact on animal health, with potential adverse effects on food production and microorganisms resistant to antimicrobials that emerge in animals may spread to human population.”
