NPPC Seeks Hog Price Information

As the partial government shutdown drags on, the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is seeking to have mandatory price reporting declared an essential function of the government. NPPC is contesting the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to furlough its Market News Service employees as part of the federal government shutdown, according to reports from the MeatPoultry.com website.

The Market News Service publishes live hog and pork pricing information. NPPC said the industry considers the Mandatory Price Reporting daily reports essential. During USDA’s shutdown, market news has been categorized as “non-essential.”
