The first meeting of the House-Senate farm bill conference committee will be Oct. 30. It is expected that Wednesday’s session will include opening statements by the 41 members of the conference.
Committee staff continues to meet in preparation for the conference. There are major issues that will need to be resolved by the conference, such as the level of cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), crop insurance – conservation compliance and means testing, dairy, commodities, etc.
The 12 Senate conferees are: Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Tom Harkin (D-IA), Max Baucus (D-MT.), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Thad Cochran (R-MS), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), John Boozman (R-AR), John Hoeven (R-ND).
